Fiddles and Feet
|
Meet a group of young musicians and dancers from Central Nova Scotia. "Fiddles and Feet" consists of four young girls ranging in age from 12 to 19. They are: Alisha Hannam, fiddle; Megan Isenor, fiddle; Janelle Putnam, mandolin, bodhran; Alycia Putnam, fiddle. Under the direction of Gordon Tucker, fiddle, and accompanied by Rob Putnam, guitar, they have been making music together for over a year. Three of the girls, Alycia, Alisha and Janelle, set their instruments down from time to time and do some lively stepdancing while Megan and Gordon fiddle up a storm. Although the overriding tone of the group is "fiddle" their musical palette contains many colors. In their repetoire you find Cape Breton style tunes, Downeast style tunes, swing and Western swing, even a few blues tunes. They move from a set of Irish/Scottish jigs to "Five Foot Two", from Don Messer's "Rubber Dolly" to "In the Mood". Then the feet will be flying to "Big John MacNeil" or "St. Anne's Reel", tunes that have livened up many a Maritime kitchen. The fiddles burst into three part harmony on "Rose of San Antone" and on the gentle Scottish air "Rosebud of Allenvale". All this delivered with the exuberance of youth and the old fashioned joy of making live music together. Make your next event extra special by including "Fiddles and Feet" on the menu! Gordon
